The Director is also the designated official with responsibility for coordinating the National Advisory Council on Indian Education. The OIE provides support to the efforts of local educational agencies, Indian tribes and organizations, post-secondary institutions, and other entities to meet the unique educational and culturally related academic needs of American Indians and Alaska Natives. The Director establishes, reviews, and recommends regulations, policies, procedures, and objectives for administering the programs of OIE. Conducts continuing appraisal of program development, and establishes priorities for the accomplishment of program goals.
