The History Channel -- Save Our History Grant Program
Application Deadline: June 2, 2006
Description: This program was designed to encourage collaboration between history organizations and schools or youth groups. Recognizing that funding is scarce, the History Channel offers grants of up to $10,000 annually to support unique educational community-preservation projects.
Who May Apply: Eligible applicants are required to be nonprofit 501(c)(3) history organizations, such as a museum, historical society, preservation organization, historic site, library, or archive. Applicant organizations must be located in one of the fifty states or the District of Columbia. Other eligible applicants include local government agencies, such as a parks and recreation commission, historic commission, department of local history, or other local government agency that owns and/or operates a historic site or property. Eligible applicants must partner with a local elementary, middle, or high school, or an organization that provides educational programming for children of similar ages. Applicants may partner with multiple schools or educational organizations.
Funding Amount: $250,000 in grants of up to $10,000 each to historical organizations to fund hands-on, experiential educational projects that teach students about their local history and actively engage them in its preservation
